I presented this design inspiration mood board to a current client who is in the midst of their renovations. We're creating a bold home that's full of natural light, beautiful surface finishes, layered with softer textures. My top 5 designer tips for a your new kitchen!
1. Space planning - getting the circulation and space right in the first place is critical. Lucky for you, I love this part, if you need help with the puzzle that is getting the foundations right, call me!
2. Storage - look at what you have to store and design your drawers and cupboards with what you own in mind. This way you know there's a home for everything!
3. Function - gas/ induction/ power / lighting/ anything you don't have now that you wish you did?
4. Aesthetics - you have to love the look so stay true to your style and your dream vision of what your kitchen looks like, if you don't you will be disappointed. For example, I really wanted my appliances to be white and simple, just blend in to my cabinets without being hidden. However there's only maybe two white ovens to choose from (most are black or stainless at the moment) so to get the look I wanted I had to stick within the limited choice of appliances I had. And I am so happy I did!
5. Materials & texture - think about what you love and find images you love to refer back to thru the design process
For our new kitchen at home, I went for simplicity, functional, timeless, white on white, with a touch of timber.... it suits the coastal location, our understated weatherboard cottage and it does everything we need it to do.
